Race report from Steve Hopkins
Prior to today I was looking to have a go at my PB but four miles in and I realized that to carry on racing in the heat would have been dangerous so i elected to slow down and trot the rest of the way but it was still hard work. Phil Dakin made an appearance running with a friend Lance who was doing his first Half.I also saw two lady club members,Lesley being one.Not sure who the other one was.
Now for a lesson in how not to organize a race you had to be here today. Not nearly enough stewards,no indication where the start was, queues a mile long to pick up timing chips, not nearly enough water[don't these people read weather forecasts],no warning or countdown at the start, there was music and then a klaxon. The course at times was a death trap with busy roads and no marshaling at all at times. Was there a risk assessment done before hand,i doubt it.This wasn't simply badly organized it could be said to be criminally negligent. All this and it was organized by 2:09 who are an events management team . Dont think i'll be trying any of their tours if this is anything to go by!
